Description

Once again November 28, 2017 brought new rules to long-term care facilities: an entirely new numbering system for survey deficiencies known as F-tags. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) updated the F-tags to correspond with the new regulatory sections implemented through the roll-outs of Phase I & II of the reform of requirements for long-term care facilities referred to as the ROP’s (Requirements of Participation) updating the Medicare/Medicaid conditions of participation. Looking past the numbers from 176 previous F-tags to 179, it is critical to be aware that in the restructuring of the regulation, some tags were combined, and some tags were split into multiple subparts. How does this affect your survey results? The number of F-tags where one or more deficiencies with scope-and-severity levels of F, H, I, J, K, or L equals substandard quality of care has increased.
