Presenter: Martha Rardin, MSM, RD, CD, FAND serves Hendricks Regional Health, Danville, Indiana as the Director, Nutrition & Dietetics and is currently serving the Association of Healthcare Foodservice as the President. Martha is an experienced dietitian. In her 41-year career she has encountered many ethical and legal situations that give pause and require careful consideration.
As a leader, you will encounter situations or decisions that will involve legal and ethical considerations. These may relate to employee management and/or care to your clients. These decisions effect the care provided as well as the management of staff and related consequences. In today’s litigious society, it is important that practitioners correctly utilize the CDM, CFPP Code of Ethics for guidance and reference. This session provides a review of the difference between laws and ethics, a review of the CDM, CFPP Code of Ethics, and several scenario-based situations.
Upon completion of this course, the successful learner will be able to:
- Understand the difference between laws and ethics and how each are applied differently
- Understand the obligations to clients, the public, and the profession
- Provide tools to help evaluate situations and emulate the characteristics of ethical leaders
